By applying the Holy Spirit’s interpretation of the reactions of others more and more consistently, you will gain an increasing awareness that HIS criteria are equally applicable to YOU. For to RECOGNIZE fear is not enough to escape FROM it, although the recognition IS necessary to demonstrate the NEED for escape. The Holy Spirit must still TRANSLATE it into truth. If you were LEFT with the fear, having RECOGNIZED it, you would have taken a step AWAY from reality, not TOWARD it. Yet we have repeatedly emphasized the need to recognize fear, and face it WITHOUT DISGUISE, as a crucial step in the undoing of the ego. Consider how well the Holy Spirit’s interpretation of the motives of others will serve you then.

But how?

What we read above can be accepted as a beautiful way out of the problems you perceive. But then nothing happens.. Why? It is about the application of these principles. What is necessary for using the Holy Spirit as a guide? Knowing how to approach the Holy Spirit and being patient to listen to the answer.

In all these phrases from the Urtext you might experience distance to what you read. As if it isn’t fully about you. Do you recognize that? Where does that come from? Well, this is exactly what I share in the first paragraph. If the ideas that are offered remain in the mental realm, it is just one more thought in the cloud, it has no impact. To not just accept the idea, but actually bring it into practice, beyond your comfort and beyond your control, something will happen that will surprise you. Exactly there is where the ideas come to life and you experience the ‘totality’ of the idea.

Ideas shared in the Course are coming from Totality, from Wholeness, from total inclusion, no differences, no measures, no personalities or limitations. Since you chose for darkness in your human experience of yourself, for separation from this Totality, which is impossible, you are temporarily blinded by the first rays of light that enter your consciousness. It is like hearing voices from a distance calling your name.
